The cowherd men then inquired from Lord Krishna how He wanted the yajna performed, and Krishna gave them the following directions. “Prepare very nice foodstuffs of all descriptions from the grains and ghee collected for the yajna.

Prepare rice, dhal, then halava, pakora, puri and all kinds of milk preparations like sweet rice, sweetballs, sandesa, rasagulla and laddu and invite the learned brahmanas who can chant the Vedic hymns and offer oblations to the fire. The brahmanas should be given all kinds of grains in charity. Then decorate all the cows and feed them well. After performing this, give money in charity to the brahmanas. As far as the lower animals are concerned, such as the dogs, and the lower grades of people, such as the candalas, or the fifth class of men who are considered untouchable, they also may be given sumptuous prasadam. After giving nice grasses to the cows, the sacrifice known as Govardhana-puja may immediately begin. This sacrifice will very much satisfy Me.” (Krishna Book, Chapter 24)

Celebrate the Month of Damodara

October 21, 2008 · Comments Off

Dear Devotees and Friends,

Throughout this special month (from October 14 to November 12), devotees commemorate the pastime of naughty Lord Krishna’s being bound with ropes by mother Yasoda. Devotees offer lamps daily and sing the Damodarastakam prayers. It is also the final month of Caturmasya, and many saintly persons perform different austerties to increase their hearing and chanting of Lord Krishna’s names and activites, while minimizing bodily needs. Furthermore, this month is also festival month, as many special days related to the pastimes of Lord Krishna in Vrindavan occur.

Here @ Sri Sri Radha Govinda Mandir, we invite all of you to visit the temple to celebrate this most intimate of festivals where we worship the sweet childhood pastimes of Lord Sri Damodara (Krishna).

The Offering of Lamps to Lord Damodara will take place @ Sri Sri Radha Govinda Mandir as follows:

Daily @ 7:00pm, Sundays @ 6:00pm

Doughnuts!

October 6, 2008 · Comments Off

Dear devotees and friends,

our dear friend Mark Israel prabhu was mentioned in the NY Times Magazine this weekend.

He runs the famed Doughnut Plant in NYC, which is just a few subway stops away from Radha Govinda Temple!  He started his business in a small basement and now he has a full fledged operation and his confections are sold, not just at his plant, but also in many high-class eateries all over New  York City.

If you’re ever in town, be sure to visit his establishment.  Everything he makes is not only vegetarian (many items are also vegan) but is ALSO PRASADAM!!

visit him online for more info: www.doughnutplant.com
