Sri Nityananda Trayodasi
Appearance Day of Lord Nityananda Prabhu

vande shri-krishna-chaitanya- nityanandau sahoditau
gaudodaye pushpavantau chitra shandau tamo-nudau

“I offer my respectful obeisances unto Sri Krishna Caitanya and Lord Nityananda, who are like the sun and moon. They have arisen simultaneously on the horizon of Gauda to dissipate the darkness of ignorance and thus wonderfully bestow benediction upon all.” (Cc.Adi.1.2.)

Like the sun and moon appearing in the horizon, Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda appeared along with the pancha-tattva to dissipate the veil of ignorance that covered the hearts of the conditioned souls. Eternally known as brothers, Nimai and Nitai performed sankirtan in the streets of Nadia and thus uplifted the hearts of many of it?s residents and thus krsna-prema or love of god was able to manifest in hearts that were once considered barren. Even those that evaded Mahaprabhu’s grips were unable to escape the merciful grips of Lord Nityananda for he was relentless. Though the Supreme Lord of all, Lord Nityananda humbly begged each door he went to chant the name of ‘Gauranga’ and thus fulfil life’s goal. Lord Nityananda is very dear to Caitanya Mahaprabhu and thus those who want his favor must humbly take shelter of Lord Nityananda who is very merciful even to the most fallen and destitute devoid of any good qualities. By thus surrendering to Lord Nityananda with faith and humility and imploring His mercy onecan thus receive all auspiciousness, end the cycle of ignorance and firmly be situated in the boat of krsna-prema.

Celebrate Gita Jayanti @ Radha Govinda Mandir!

November 25, 2009 · Comments Off

Dear Devotees and Friends,

This coming weekend, November 28-29, we will be celebrating the auspicious festival of Gita Jayanti, the sacred day when the Bhagavad Gita was sung by the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna to his dear friend and disciple Arjuna, on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra more than 5000 years ago.

In the Bhagavad Gita, the sincere reader will be able to gain access to the Supreme Science of Krishna Consciousness. This knowledge is made available exactly as Lord Krishna spoke it, by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the author of Bhagavad Gita As It Is and Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust.

At Sri Sri Radha Govinda Mandir, to commemorate this occasion, there will be a Bhagavad Gita Yajna and Puja in worship of this sacred dialogue of Lord Sri Krishna and Arjuna, in which the devotees will be chanting some of the principle verses of the Bhagavad Gita, while the priests offer Puja to the Bhagavad Gita.  Additionally, students from the Radha Govinda Sunday School will be reciting Bhagavad Gita verses which they have memorized over the course of the previous semester.

On Saturday November 28th, the auspicious day of Moksada Ekadasi, we will be reciting all 700 verses of the Bhagavad Gita, starting at 10 am.  This will be followed by Arati at 12:30pm and prasadam.  Please join us to worship the Bhagavad Gita in this wonderful way.

On Sunday November 29th, the celebrations continues  @ 6:00pm with Arati and Kirtan, followed by an evening presentation by the Sunday school students will be reciting selected verses of the Bhagavad Gita.  This  will be followed by a Bhagavad Gita agni-hotra fire ceremony, where the principles verses of the Gita will be recited by everyone, as oblations are offered into the sacred fire. On this special Sunday, there will be the chance for all Devotees and Friends to purchase and/or sponsor large quantities of Bhagavad Gita As It Is at wholesale prices for distribution to friends and family members and to those unfortunate persons who need Krishna consciousness and love of God in their life.  This book makes the perfect and matchless-gift,the wisdom of Sri Krishna’s Bhagavad-gita, as it will be able to enlighten and uplift the consciousness of anyone and everyone who reads  the beautiful poetic 700 verses. Also, you will be able to sponsor Bhagavad Gitas which will be distributed on your behalf.
